Recognizing the continuing decline of the use of Yellow Page Directories, San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee recently signed a bill to ban the unsolicited distribution of Yellow Pages in the city.

Under the law, which which won’t go into effect for a year, companies can’t leave Yellow Page directories at the front door of homes and businesses without prior permission. The distribution of white pages is not affected. Since this is a pilot project, the regulation will expire after three years from enactment unless renewed. It’s estimated that more than 1.6 million Yellow Page directories are delivered annually in San Francisco. That’s almost two directories for every man, woman and child in San Francisco… and nearly five for each residence.

Do you think what San Francisco is doing is appropriate?
